If I may ask, what was your first intention when you left Philippines for work?  Was it to earn more, or to help the Philippine economy?

Let us all face it.  To earn more was the very reason why we left.  Helping the Philippine economy was never in our minds, it is just one of the consequences in the process of wanting to earn more abroad....




I'm assuming your q has something to do with OFWs being heroes. I have to agree with the fact that generally, giving the Philippine economy a boost is not the intent of most people seeking their fortune abroad. I'd like to delve into this from an economist's point of view though but I'm a tad lazy. ^_^

To answer your q -

I flew here primarily because I needed a change of environment.

First Level
- to help yourself. to create a now for self-development. that is natural.

Second level
- to help others. especially people you know and love the most. that is heroic.

Third level
- to influence others follow the path reaching the third level, no shorcuts.  that is divine.

Agreed on intent but why does one have to preclude the other? Shouldn't that be a natural occurence given higher per capita as a result of say higher salary or "send home" pay?

          Well eventhough Im a resident of this country and married with my THAI wife Im still very PROUD of being PINOY... and no matter what I wont exhange my Phil. Passport to any passport in the world... This is not just being patriotic but to face the FACTS that at the end of the day there is nothing better than our very own mother land.

          Also why be bothered if they call us OFW... the most important thing is for you to just be FOCUS on your GOAL so no matter what  they say its you who is still in CONTROL of your own life.

          I also agree with Lengrad that I think majority of the people who left their country  don't really set it as a GOAL to help the economy as the main thing but most is to help their family or fed of of their life in their particular country, but luckily it helps directly to our economic situation. Just remeber this  " People don't PLAN TO FAIL.., but they FAIL TO PLAN "... so no matter what u can not just rely with LADY LUCK..
